Vestigium.Controls

build

WPF control library for the Vestigium suite (PingIQ, DnsIQ, TraceIQ, HttpIQ, ProbeHost).

Target: .NET 10 LTS / WPF / Visual Studio 2026
Architecture: MVVM + Microsoft.Extensions.DependencyInjection
License: MIT (LICENSE) — stamped onto every project by Directory.Build.props

This repository ships Vestigium.Controls (shared shell + DI), Vestigium.Controls.StatusBar, Vestigium.Controls.NumericUpDown, Vestigium.Controls.UnderConstruction, and Vestigium.Controls.PropertiesGrid. Hosts consume the libraries. There are no demo executables in this solution.

Umbrella requirements: _Documentation/Requirements_v1.0.md

Default form (this milestone)

VestigiumDefaultWindow is an empty host:

  • Top-level horizontal Menu whose items currently resolve to Under Construction.
  • Client area left empty for the consuming application.
  • VestigiumStatusBar attached to the shell. Default dock is Bottom. Position is bindable to Top or Bottom.

A consuming application owns the executable and themes. This repo does not ship a sample WPF host.

Open in Visual Studio

  1. Clone this repository.
  2. Open Vestigium.Controls.slnx in Visual Studio 2026.
  3. Restore NuGet.
  4. Build. Run tests with dotnet test Vestigium.Controls.slnx -c Release.

Host in two calls

using Microsoft.Extensions.DependencyInjection;
using Vestigium.Controls.DependencyInjection;

var services = new ServiceCollection();
services.AddVestigiumControls();
var provider = services.BuildServiceProvider();

Do this during Application.OnStartup before the first window.

Theming is not part of those two calls. A host that wants a Vestigium palette does this in the same OnStartup, from the host project, before the window is parsed:

var themes = new ThemeManager();
themes.Register(ThemeDefinition.FromPack(
    "LightBlue", "Light Blue", "Vestigium.Themes.LightBlue", isDark: false));
themes.Initialize(this, "LightBlue");

Vestigium.Controls* assemblies do not reference Themes. Controls consume Vestigium.Brushes.* when the host merged them; otherwise they use Generic.xaml fallbacks.

Contracts that do not move

  • MVVM on every project. Code-behind only calls InitializeComponent and assigns DataContext.
  • Controls never throw on the dispatcher. Invalid input leaves the last good visual state.
  • Design-time XAML preview works without a live IServiceProvider.
  • No project under this umbrella references Vestigium.Themes*.
  • No project under this umbrella targets anything other than net10.0-windows.
  • MIT license and the root README are linked into every project from Directory.Build.props. Do not copy those files into src/.
