Effect.DI

Composable dependency injection layers for Effect.

Build, compose, and manage service lifetimes with typed errors and automatic resource cleanup.

Install

dotnet add package Effect.DI --prerelease

Requires the Effect package.

Quick start

open Eff

// Define a layer with resource lifecycle
let dbLayer =
    Layer.scoped
        (Effect.succeed (connectToDb ()))
        (fun db -> task { db.Dispose() })

let cacheLayer =
    Layer.fromEffect (Effect.succeed (createCache ()))

// Compose layers
let appLayer =
    Layer.merge dbLayer cacheLayer
    |> Layer.map (fun (db, cache) ->
        { new IAppEnv with
            member _.Db = db
            member _.Cache = cache })

// Build, run, and clean up automatically
let result = Layer.buildAndRun appLayer (getUser 1)

API

Function Description
fromEffect Layer without cleanup
scoped Layer with explicit release function
scopedDisposable Layer from IDisposable
compose Chain layers sequentially
merge Combine two independent layers
map / mapError Transform output or error
build Build and get resource + release handle
buildAndRun Build, run effect, release automatically

Resources are released in reverse acquisition order. If a later layer fails to build, earlier layers are properly cleaned up.
